‘I have been told that this is usually one of the only times in a married man’s life when he can speak without being interrupted … I may be here sometime.’

‘I didn’t actually receive an invitation to the wedding, so I hope I haven’t just eaten somebody else’s meal.’

‘When I asked [bride’s] father if I could marry his daughter, he wanted to know if I would be able to support the family. The answer was no! I was only planning to support his daughter. The rest of them would have to look after themselves.’

‘I was a bit nervous about giving a wedding speech so I had a look online for some tips. The best advice came from Franklin D Roosevelt who said “Be sincere; be brief; be seated”. So…..thanks very much for coming!’

‘[bride], I hope that every day will be as happy as today…..just not as expensive.’

I love the way you[give an example of something cute she does]. I cannot wait to spend the rest of our lives together and see what’s next on our adventure.’

‘[bride], you are a beautiful bride and I am very proud to be your husband. I hope that marrying you today in front of all our friends and family shows you how much you mean to me. You are the apple of my eye, the sunshine of my life……and I promise to do whatever I can to make you happy.

‘[bride], when I first asked you out on a date[give specific example], I could not have imagined we would end up here just a few short years later. I consider myself the luckiest man alive to be married to such a wonderful woman….and I always will. I cherish every moment I spend with you and I look forward to spending the rest of our lives together.

‘[bride], you are an amazing woman. I feel so blessed to be able to call you my wife. Every minute of the past 4 years has been an adventure for me and I have loved discovering the incredible person you are. I feel like I know you better than I know myself……but yet you still manage to surprise me with something new every day. I love everything I know about you….and everything I don’t know, I promise to spend the rest of my life learning. And I can’t wait!’

‘Thank you all for taking the time to come and celebrate with us today. We really appreciate the effort you have taken to get here, especially those who have travelled a great distance to be here[thank international guests individually]. It means so much to us to be surrounded by all the people we love on our wedding day so we are very grateful that you all managed to share this special day with us. Thank you also for the generosity you have shown us with all the gifts we have received. We are very grateful for your incredible kindness.’

‘We would like to thank you all for celebrating with us today. For all your kind words and wishes and for your incredible generosity with all the gifts we have received. We are extremely humbled by your kindness and we look forward to spending the rest of the day with you all.’

‘I would like to thank the ushers[names] for all your help in the lead up to the wedding. You’ve been a great help and I’m very grateful for all your support’

‘Thanks to the ushers[names] for all their help in wedding preparations. We couldn’t have done it without you and really appreciate your assistance with all the wedding plans’

‘I would like to thank the ushers[names]….for getting to the church on time(wait for laugh) Not for their help in wedding planning…..they were useless! I’m obviously kidding…..they didn’t get to church on time at all! In all seriousness though, thank you for all your help, I couldn’t have done it without you’.

‘The beautiful bridesmaids[names] have been amazing! They have been a great help to [bride] in helping her with wedding plans and have done a great job in keeping her calm in the lead up to today. So, I would like to ask you to join me in standing and raising your glasses….to the bridesmaids.’

‘We would like to say a special thank you to the bridesmaids[names] who have been a fantastic help with wedding preparations. We could not have done it without you so we are really grateful for all your help. Ladies and gentleman, please join me in raising your glasses…..to the bridesmaids.’

‘I’m sure you will all agree that the bridesmaids look beautiful! I would like to thank them for keeping [bride] calm, for helping her with difficult colour choices(of which I wasn’t included!) and for helping to make the entire wedding planning experience a delight for both [bride] and me. We really appreciate all your help and support in the past few months. Ladies and gentleman, I would like to ask you to stand and raise your glasses…..to the bridesmaids.’

‘Your best man should be your most loyal, caring friend…but in the absence of anyone who fitted that description, I turned to [best man].’

‘[best man] isn’t the sharpest tool in the box. When [bride’s] father toasted ‘Absent Friends’ earlier, I expected [best man] to stand up’

‘[best man] is one of the nicest guys I know. I’ve known him since I was [age] years old and he has always been there for me. He’s been a great help in the lead up to the wedding and he got me to the church on time this morning with no issues. I can’t thank him enough for his help and I feel honoured to have him as my best man’

‘and on that note, I would like to pass over to [best man] to do his best to embarass me. Just remember that [best man] has a wild imagination and has a hard time remembering facts. He has a diploma in over-exaggeration and I’m sure he will tell some unbelievable tales during his speech. The best approach with [best man] is to assume it isn’t true. And with that in mind, I’ll pass you over to [best man].
