Do I Need a Wedding Planner?

Good question! The answer is very much dependant on your wedding and your requirements. If you are confused by what a wedding planner does, read this breakdown of the various types of wedding planners and what tasks they undertake.

Most people probably think that a wedding planner is just somebody you hire to put all the wedding plans together, and for that reason they opt to do it themselves. In actual fact, a fully-fledged wedding planner will pretty much take care of your entire wedding(including liaising with your suppliers on your wedding day!). They have a massive part to play in your wedding.

To help you determine whether you need a wedding planner or not, here are some key questions to ask yourself?

Can I handle the stress of planning a wedding?

One of the key reasons to hire a wedding planner is to reduce stress. Planning a wedding can be an extremely stressful task(dependant on how big a wedding you are having) and if you are the type of person who gets stressed easily, your anxiety levels may be bursting through the roof pretty quickly. If you think the task is more than you can handle, you may want to consider hiring a wedding planner. If you can’t afford a wedding planner, we’ve got some hacks on how to reduce wedding stress.

How much can I afford to spend?

Make sure to do a budget at the beginning of your wedding planning to make sure you have enough to cover the other costs before hiring a wedding planner. Although wedding planners will help you with your wedding costs, you don’t want to blow photographer/florist budget etc. which most people would probably consider more of a necessity.

How much input do I want to have in wedding decisions?

Are you the type of person who has been dreaming of getting married your entire life and look forward to all the flower choices etc? Or are you the least “wedding-y” person in the world(you want to get married, but don’t care so much about the actual wedding day)? If you are the latter, you may be happy to pass the entire task of planning the wedding over to a wedding planner and let them get on with it. If you are the former, you would probably prefer to plan the whole wedding yourself(although a wedding planner won’t steal all the fun bits from you if you don’t want them to). A good wedding planner will work with you dependant on how involved you want to be with the wedding planning.

Am I creative enough to design my dream wedding?

If your biggest struggle is creativity and you don’t have any creative bridesmaids, ushers, sisters or brothers……you may then want to consider hiring a wedding planner/designer. Creative wedding planners are skilled at creating scenes that set an atmosphere (something that is very difficult to do). If you think you will struggle at choosing decorations etc. yourself a wedding planner may be able to assist. Wedding designers specialise in this area, so if this is the only area of the wedding planning you struggle with, a wedding designer may be a better alternative to a full wedding planner. If you don’t know the difference, here is a breakdown.
