The popularity of the bride speech has sky-rocketed in recent years. Due to its infancy in the wedding speech world, there is no set template of what you should traditionally say. It’s all dependant on what the groom, best man and father-of-the-bride are saying(e.g. there is no point in all 4 of you thanking specific guests). With that said, we have included some sections which you may want to incorporate into your speech. Feel free to mess around with the order to make this work for you.

Speech Structure

‘I would like to mirror what has already been said by [name of person] by thanking you all once again for sharing this special day with us. I’ve had a lovely day.’

‘Ladies and gentlemen, I’ve decided to keep this speech as short as I can, so at least if you don’t find it entertaining you can compliment me on its length.’

‘Thank you all once again for coming today. Sharing this day with you has made it all the more special.’

Tell the story. (you’ll need to come up with this bit yourself 😛 )

‘I had no idea such a wonderful combination of qualities could exist in one person until I met [groom].’

‘[Groom], I feel so blessed that you are in my life and I am delighted to become your wife today. I love you with my whole heart and know that this is just the beginning of a new and wonderful life together.’

‘They say that you don’t marry someone you can live with, you marry the person you cannot live without. This is how I feel about [groom] as I simply cannot live without you.’

‘Words have not been written that can express how I feel about you. So let me just say it plainly……I love you.’

‘[Groom], you are everything I didn’t know I wanted.’

‘[Groom] and I have been together for over three years, and during that time I’ve observed his many qualities …manners, patience, charm – are sadly the only ones I haven’t seen yet.’

‘I have spent the last 3 years falling in love. I plan to spend the rest of my life doing exactly the same thing.’

‘I would like to say a special thank you to [name(s)] for their help in wedding preparations. You helped keep me calm when I was stressing about….[something funny]. You gave up your time to [a task that they helped with]. I couldn’t have done this without you so I’m very grateful for all your love and suppor.t’

‘Thank you to [name(s)] for all your help over the past year. You made the stressful parts fun, and the hard parts easy. Thank you for making the wedding planning memorable…..and for all the right reasons!’

‘I would like to thank my parents for being the best parents anybody could wish for. (turn to parents) You have always been so supportive of me……encouraging me to follow my dreams……lifting me up when I was feeling low…..and loving me when I was being a brat! I love you both so much. Thank you for everything you have done for me.’

‘You don’t get to choose your parents, but even if you could…….I would choose mine. They have been so supportive of me through my entire life, and when [groom] and I announced our engagement, they couldn’t have been happier and have been so helpful in the lead up to today. (turn to parents) Thank you for everything, I love you both so much.’

‘Since [groom] and I met, my parents have been incredibly supportive of us and have always been there to help us out [add a specific example if desired]. We are both extremely grateful for everything you have done for us.’

‘I would also like to thank my new in-laws [name & name] for welcoming me into their family and making me feel like a daughter. I feel like I have known you both my whole life and I am very grateful for all the support you have shown me. Thank you so much.’

‘When we first shared the news of our engagement with [name & name] they were incredibly supportive and began at once to research venues and wedding dresses. Their excitement for this wedding has at times seemed like it was even greater than mine. It’s so lovely to be welcomed into a new family with such warmth and anticipation. (turn to your in-laws) You have made me feel very treasured. I hope as your new daughter-in-law that I can show you just a fraction of the love that you have shown me’

‘Now it may be some time before we meet up again so I’d like to propose a final toast for the day. This is my toast to you; to all our friends old and new. Thank you for sharing this day with us. To your health and happiness!’

‘Thank you all once again for sharing this day with us. I would like to propose a toast to all of you for making this day so memorable for [Groom] and I. We look forward to spending the rest of the evening together. To you all!’

‘[Groom] and I will always remember this day, and, from time to time, will think about all of you who are here making it the wonderful day that it is. My toast is to you!’
